Philippines:El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

Ops. .this isn’t a video game featuring Brother Mike Velarde and the numerous followers of his charismatic movement. Though El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron does rely heavily on a common religious fixture: angels.

El Shaddai is an upcoming game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, from multinational company UTV Ignition. It’s “a character-action game based on the dead sea scrolls, but… made in Japan,” said Shane Bettenhausen of UTV during E3 2011.

El Shaddai is set for a July 26, 2011 release worldwide. In case you’re wondering, El Shaddai is also the name of the “biggest Catholic Charismatic Movement in the Philippines.”, with 8 million members as of 2008. 

The hero plays an angel sent by God to reclaim the souls of fallen bretheren who have abandoned heaven. Failure means the end of the world. Below is a trailer of the game, which showcases El Shaddai’s trippy 3Dgraphics, and third-person gameplay similar to the God of War series. Still, it’s missing something. As a Filipino commenter on YouTube said “Dapat nandito si Brother Mike.”
